Privacy Policy

GeoTag Camera (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a camera app that stamps photos with the place and time they were taken. This policy describes exactly what the app sends off your device, what it does not, and why.

The short version. Your photos never leave your device. The street address stamped on a photo is worked out on the device itself. Your coordinates are sent to our server only to fetch the small map image, rounded first so they are not precise, and are not stored. We do keep a random identifier for your installation, a daily count of how many photos you took, and — if you allow notifications — a push token.

What never leaves your device

What the app sends us

DataWhyKept?
Installation ID — a random identifier created on first launch. It is not your Apple ID, Google account, device serial, phone number or advertising identifier, and it is not linked to your identity. Lets the app work without an account, a login, or any personal details. Yes
Daily capture count — how many photos you stamped on a given day. A number only; never which photos, or where. Tells us how much the app is used overall. Yes, as a daily total
Platform and app version (e.g. “ios”, “1.2”). Lets us support the versions in use and tell you when an update is available. Yes
Approximate location. Your coordinates are reduced in precision before they are sent, so what leaves the device describes a general area rather than an exact spot. Only to fetch the small map image stamped on the photo. No. Used to produce the map image, then discarded. Your location is never stored on our servers.
Notification token, if you allow notifications. Lets us send occasional app notifications. Yes, until you turn notifications off or uninstall

Advertising

The app includes the Google AdMob advertising SDK. At the time of writing ads are switched off, and while they are off the SDK is not started and collects nothing.

If ads are turned on in future, the app requests non-personalized ads only. That instructs Google not to use the advertising identifier to build a profile of you across apps. Google may still process device and diagnostic information in order to serve and measure those ads; that processing is covered by Google’s policy. The app does not ask for permission to track you and does not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt.

Who else processes this data

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with data brokers.

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If what the app collects changes, this page is updated before or alongside the release that changes it, and the “last updated” date above moves.
